ABOUT EMILY

Hi, I'm Emily Owen

Why do I want to stand?

I'm a mum of two amazing boys, and I want to stand for the Senedd in Bangor Conwy Mon because these communities are not just places I seek to serve, they are our home. I live and work in Aberconwy, I raise my boys here, and previously stood as a parliamentary candidate. I studied at Bangor University, and my children’s grandparents live on Ynys Môn. These roots have given me a deep and personal understanding of the challenges and strengths of this region.

My background:

My career spans public, charity, and trade union sectors. From coordinating volunteer support for people with Parkinson’s during the pandemic, to representing teaching assistants with UNISON, to winning appeals for disabled people unfairly treated by the DWP - I’ve consistently worked to challenge inequality and deliver practical support. I’m a trauma-informed leader who listens, empowers others, and builds strong, values-based partnerships.

I currently serve as Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Homelessness, and Service Transformation on Conwy County Borough Council. In that role, I’ve reshaped local housing policy to prioritise prevention and affordability, overseen our council's return to owning social homes for the first time in nearly 20 years, and introduced an empty homes strategy that brought 78 properties back into use last year. We have also implemented a wraparound model to support people with complex needs - proving that innovative, people-centred services are possible, even under financial pressure.

As a single mum of two, I know the real-world barriers many people face (especially women and working parents) when trying to engage with politics. I’m determined to break those barriers and create a more inclusive political environment that reflects modern Wales.

This next step feels natural. I’ve led at the heart of local government, seen the pressure of frontline services, and understand how upstream decisions impact delivery. I want to bring that insight to the Senedd to shape policy that’s both ambitious and deliverable - rooted in compassion, community, and practicality.

My diverse professional background gives me a rare insight: I understand policy from the perspective of those who write it, those who deliver it, and those who live under its consequences.

MY MISSION

Empower Communities,
Build a Better Future

As a Senedd representative, I would champion policies that ensure equitable access to housing, healthcare, social care, and mental health resources - ensuring that people got the right support at the right time. Expanding these areas of support is essential for building resilient, supportive communities.

My vision for how I would serve Bangor Aberconwy and Ynys Mon as a Welsh Labour Senedd candidate is defined by people-centered policy, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to inclusive, fair governance. Welsh Labour has always been an advocate for progressive, inclusive politics, and I am dedicated to advancing these principles through my work. Wales faces a unique set of challenges, from economic inequality and health disparities to housing shortages. I believe my background equips me to approach these issues strategically and compassionately, ensuring that solutions are crafted with both empathy and practicality.

If elected to the Senedd, I will bring my experience, dedication, and deep local connections to serve the people of Bangor Aberconwy and Ynys Môn. My record of public service, my understanding of the challenges facing our communities, and my unwavering commitment to values make me a strong candidate. I am ready to be a bold advocate for progressive policies that address inequality, improve public services, and create opportunities for all. With your support, we can build a fairer, kinder, more inclusive, and resilient Wales.
