Refugees

Being with the refugees in Calais was a life-changing experience. They taught me gratitude, peace, and compassion in ways I’ll never forget. It was an honour to support them - offering food, clothing, and information, and standing by them through the traumatic demolition of "the Jungle."

They inspired me deeply. Many contributed to my university studies with their bright minds, courage, and insight. The children, in particular, showed a resilience that was both heartbreaking and humbling.

I made a promise to be their voice when they had none. And I will never back down - not in the face of far-right rhetoric, nor in response to populist politics.

The Ukrainian refugee scheme proved that safe, legal routes work. They are the only true solution to ending the exploitation of vulnerable people by human traffickers. We must do better. We can do better.
