Poverty and inequity

Mental health issues, housing crises, and strained healthcare systems are not the root problems - they're symptoms. The real cause is poverty and inequality.

We need to tackle this crisis at its core. The divide between the wealthy and everyone else has never been wider. The pressures of modern life are heavier than ever, and people are struggling to stay afloat.

Mental health is in crisis in North Wales. I know this not just from statistics, but from personal experience - someone very close to me needed urgent mental health intervention, and we were met with a system that is overstretched, under-resourced, and, frankly, broken. That experience lit a fire in me. I am a passionate campaigner for better mental health support, and I believe real change starts with prevention. We need to invest in community infrastructure - accessible green spaces, safe places for play, local leisure facilities, cultural hubs that bring people together, and robust social prescribing networks that connect individuals with meaningful, non-clinical support. Mental wellbeing is built through connection, creativity, movement, and belonging - and right now, too many people are being left behind.

It’s time for policies that don’t just treat the symptoms, but relieve the pressure on everyday people. We must focus on fairness, dignity, and support for all - not just survival for some.
